Distractions

"4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." John 15: 4-5 NIV

When God calls you to do something, do you focus on the task He's assigned you or do you get side-tracked by distractions? I would equate this to being given an important homework assignment that you know you are capable of doing and plan on succeeding in. But before you can get started, you are somehow carried off by the mundane tasks that all of a sudden seem important; you need to walk the dog, you need to send that "important" email, or your friend comes knocking for advice. While keeping balance in life is important and the above can be important, finishing the very tasks God assigns us should always supersede everything else. Jesus tells us exactly how to do that; He tells us that we can never "bear fruit" or succeed if we don't remain in Him. Without staying solely focused on Him, we won't be able to do what He's asked us to. So dear friends, let's cast off everything that hinders our progress by keeping our focus on Him and forgetting the distractions.

Prayer for Today: Dear Lord, thank you for your love. Thank you for entrusting me with daily assignments. Thank you for considering me and making my paths straight before me. Please keep my mind stayed on you. Please help me not to lose sight of the daily goals you place on my heart. Don't let the cares of this world hinder who I am or where I am going in You. I thank and praise you, Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen.
